I know this photo is out of order, but I just received it from Jim, the ABB mechanic. He took it of Terry in the Tetons, and it's just too good not to post.

Terry and The Tetons |
So, back to today, which was the arrival in South Dakota, and a very pleasant ride, still with a nice tailwind. It's already noticeably different from Wyoming--greener, more hilly, more trees, higher humidity, but still pretty empty. The route was simple: ride north for 46 miles, turn right, ride east another 46 miles. (Still, apparently one of the riders missed the turn). Temps were 60 at the start and in the high 80's at the finish. With the higher humidity, Terry was down to basic cycling attire for the first time--no extra clothing such as arm warmers or leg warmers. I guess this is shades of things to come, as it will definitely get more humid as they make their way east. Riders saw a lot more cattle and horses today, than they had seen in awhile. As they crossed over into South Dakota, they started to climb back into higher elevations and the landscape changed into into Ponderosa Pine forest and the rocky mountains of the Black Hills.

Riders Passing The Trees of Black Hills |
There really are hot springs in Hot Springs, but there's no time to find them and take a dip. Hot Springs really is the gateway to the Black Hills, Mt. Rushmore, the Crazy Horse monument, and various other attractions, like a wooly mammoth and a number of weird and wonderful caves. Tomorrow takes them to the Black Hills, which true to its namesake, has hills. Tomorrow they climb up and over Mt. Rushmore. I guarantee there'll be lots of photos taken tomorrow!
